7th and 8th Grade Band

Hello! We are looking forward to seeing you! During digital learning there will not be a split between beginning and advance band. All brass and percussionists are in one period and all woodwinds are in the other. We will return to  split level ensembles when we are back to face-to-face instruction. Please disregard the course name.  We will not be offering the double-block band option until we are back to face-to-face instruction. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at durhambands@gmail.com Yay Band!

Fall Scheduling For 7th Grade

Dear Parents and Students, We hope that all of you are doing well and being safe in these trying times.  As we look forward to next year we are trying to put together our schedule for classes.  In 7th Grade Band we have full band classes meaning brass, woodwind, and percussion would all be in the same class together.  In combining all of the students we place them into classes based on auditions at the end of the year.  These auditions include scales, prepared music, and sight reading.  If you are interested in being considered for the Symphonic class please indicate this on the form attached, anyone not taking an audition will automatically be placed in the Concert class.  We have attached a form to fill out for our schedule for next year, all students need to complete this form. bit.ly/Rising7thGrade          Thank You, Matt Segars      Selena Sanchez

8th Grade Trip

To all 8th Grade Parents and Students, Please see below from Dr. Bristow regarding the 8th Grade Orlando Trip: Dear Durham Families, As you know, the school district has canceled all field trips. Understandably, we have been getting a lot of questions regarding refunds. At this point, we are unable to guarantee anything because the payments were all made to travel companies and they have already paid the vendors. We have reached out to our travel company and they are doing everything they can to secure refunds from the vendors. This process could take some time (6-8 weeks), and the travel company says that they cannot guarantee anything at this point. We are sorry for the inconvenience but hope that you will bear with us as we are all dealing with these extraordinary events. Sincerely, Andy Bristow, PhD Principal Durham Middle School

Dear Parents and Students, This message is for Jazz Band, Durham Winds, and Percussion Ensemble students only.   We have two new dates: March 19 and March 24; these will be Rising 6 th Grade Nights for our elementary feeders.   Ford and Frey are the 19 th and Pickett’s Mill is the 24 th .   For both of these nights we need some sort of performing group to play in the hall as the students and parents are visiting the school.   We would like to have Durham Winds play,   but could just as easily have Jazz Band or percussion ensemble play.   We do not know the schedule yet for the Rising 6 th Grade Nights, but can tentatively say 6pm show up and be done by around 7:30 pm.   The students would wear their Green/Gray Durham Band shirt, jeans, and athletic shoes.   Please respond durhambands@gmail.com to confirm these dates for your child. Yay Band!

Concert Schedule Update

Dear Parents and Fine Arts students at Durham, We wanted to take an opportunity to inform you of some calendar changes for the end of the year concerts.  We have decided to sponsor a Spring Spectacular Concert for 8th Grade and that will replace all current spring concerts on the school calendar, including Chorus Variety Show.  Each grade level will still have a spring concert in each discipline, but they will all be separate to alleviate overcrowding in the auditorium and parking lots.  Eighth grade will participate in a new SPRING SPECTACULAR.  Band, Chorus and Orchestra will combine for this eighth grade event.  It will be hosted outside on the Field, “pops in the park” style.  Sixth and Seventh Grade will continue their normal spring concerts. Here is the Spring concert schedule for all grade levels: All Concerts begin at 6:30pm April 21           6th Grade Chorus April 22           6th Grade Band April 23           7th Grade Chorus April 27           7th
